Every statistic below comes from airport authority records, the Oaxaca Ministry of Tourism, and published route announcements. The question isn't whether Puerto Escondido is growing. It's who will be found when it does.
Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) passed 1 million annual passengers in 2025 for the first time ever — up from roughly 300,000 in 2018. That's more than triple in seven years.

A $200 million new terminal opens October 2026, built for 3 million passengers a year.
Official planning targets:
1.3 million passengers by 2027
1.8 million by 2032
The airport operator isn't building for the demand that exists. It's building for the demand that's coming.
The international traveler used to need two flights and patience. Not anymore:
United — direct from Houston since April 2025 (first international route in PXM history)
American Airlines — direct from Dallas–Fort Worth, launching December 2026
WestJet — seasonal service from Calgary
More Canadian and U.S. routes in planning for 2026 (per airport operator statements)
The Barranca Larga–Ventanilla superhighway cut the drive from Oaxaca City from six hours to 2.5. Weekend traffic from central Mexico now fills weeks that used to be quiet.
Here's the part that matters: growth doesn't distribute itself evenly. It finds the businesses that are visible when a visitor is deciding.
The visitor landing on a Houston direct flight tonight will search in English. They don't know which street is La Punta. They don't know your name yet — unless someone introduces you before they arrive.
